Graviera

A hard cheese mainly made on the island of Crete, Graviera is the second most popular cheese in Greece behind Feta.

There are varying types of Graviera but it is typically made from sheep milk and aged for around five months.

In a similar way as Kefalotyri but with a slightly sweeter taste, Graviera can also be eaten cold, fried and used for saganaki, or grated on pasta, meat and vegetable dishes. It is also typically light yellow in colour and varies depending on the brand and how many months it has been aged.
